Our history

SKB, the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company, was founded in the early 70´s to manage and dispose of all the nuclear waste from nuclear power plants in Sweden in a safe way. SKB is owned by the Swedish nuclear power companies and has a statutory duty to deal with the disposal of Swedish nuclear waste.

The foundation of SKB International

In 1984, SKB founded a department in response to requests for technical information and know-how from foreign programmes for the disposal of nuclear waste. In 2001, the department was transformed into a subsidiary of SKB under the name SKB International.

Since the start, hundreds of missions and projects have been carried out aiming at solving the global challenge of nuclear waste for future generations. SKB International has supplied and is still supplying the methodology, technology and know-how to partners, clients and implementer organisations around the world.
