Programme development

SKB International is world leading in terms of nuclear waste management. After decades of research and operating several facilities, we have the experience and knowledge in management and development of a solution for nuclear waste. This includes every phase of the process, from conceptualisation to the realisation of a fully implemented solution.

SKB´s nuclear waste management programme started in the late 1970s and has resulted in a significant catalogue of experiences and lessons learned. SKB International offers strategic guidance for planning, developing, and managing final disposal programs. In addition, SKB International has in-depth knowledge on the important decision-making points and priorities that are required of an implementing organisation with assigned roles and responsibilities. Let us help define your path forward, ensuring efficiency and success every step of the way.

Programme development is crucial to ensure that the right decisions are made at the appropriate time, and that underpinning knowledge is developed to enable company management or external decision-makers to make the necessary decisions when needed. Programme development enables the implementing organisation to identify programme risks and challenges that need to be dealt with to avoid delays or cost increases.

Applicable to different host geologies

Even though SKB´s repository for short-lived waste is, and the repository for spent fuel will be, constructed in a crystalline host rock, SKB’s methodology and technology are largely applicable to other geological formations. SKB International’s knowledge and know-how will thus be useful to peers, regardless of waste types and disposal site. Most importantly, SKB International will bring to the table the role of a peer and a “critical friend”. This will help the client in its task of carrying out efficient programme development and delivering robust and appropriate business cases.
